SANTIAGO DEL ESTERO, THE OLDEST CITY IN THE COUNTRY
It was founded in 1553. Its cathedral was the first one to be built in Argentina. In the church of La Merced, the faithful venerate the image of Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes. In this city, the Franciscan monks who arrived in America founded one of the first convents, the Convento de San Francisco, which houses a museum of religious art. The Casa de los Taboada is a building worth noting with spacious courtyards and typical Spanish well. The Church of Santo Domingo has one of the two existing tracings of the Sacred Shroud. In the Parque Aguirre there is a zoo with important autochthonous species, a vivarium and an artificial lake.

TERMAS DE RÍO HONDO - AN OASIS
Winter is the ideal time to pay a visit to these numerous thermal spas. Owing to their temperature you can bathe in the outdoor pools. As they were known before, Las Aguas del Sol - The Waters of the Sun - are recommended for rheumatic conditions. Their temperature varies between 27º and 41ºC and they contain iron, bicarbonate, chloride and sulphate.

The Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de Loreto, the patron saint of Argentinian aviation, in Villa San Martín. Sumampa is one of the country's most important places of pilgrimage, where the faithful gather to worship Nuestra Señora de la Consolación on the 23rd November. |
