This
museum is under the authority of the School of Exact Sciences and
Technology of the National University of Tucumán. It was created
in 1988 for the purpose of promoting and providing information about
the work carried out during the last 40 years by the Sugar Institute.
A large mural decorating one of its interior walls describes the
historical development of Tucumán, and was painted by the winners
of the First Prize in a competition organized by the School of Arts.
There is also a replica of an office at a sugar mill at the turn
of the century, maquettes and laboratory pieces. One can also observe
the process involved in the manufacture of sugar and alcohol.
San
Miguel de Tucumán
The city of San Miguel de Tucumán, capital of the province, is located
1,303km. away from the Capital City, on national route No. 9, and
447m. above sea level. It is the most important industrial and commercial
city in the Argentine Northwest, and has several touristic attractions
in the surroundings, such as Villa Nogués, cerro San Javier and
El Cadillal dam.
