This
museum lies only 50 blocks away from the central square of San Miguel
de Tucumán and was declared a Site of Historic Heritage. It is built
around typical objects of popular culture such as the cart that
was used to carry sugar cane, the trapiche or sugar mil, mortars
made of wood and stone, replicas of folkloric instruments such as
bombos (large drums) and guitars, the tradicional clay oven, and
the well that was present in every rural rancho. All this setting
is surrounded by native plants such as ceibos, willow trees, carob
trees, tipas (yellow-flowered hard wood trees), lapacho trees and
creepers with flowers. At night the place is subtly lighted creating
an atmosphere which is very appreciated by friends and sundry artists
who gather under the moon, the symbol of Tucumán and its scenery.
This museum has been acknowledged as a "home-museum of everyday
objects", and harbors many pieces surrounded by a unique and romantic
aura. It stands just a few meters away from the historical road
that used to lead to Upper Peru and now separates the green town
of Yerba Buena from the capital of Tucumán.
Yerba
Buena
Yerba Buena is virtually a neighborhood on the outskirts of San
Miguel de Tucumán only 12km. away from the main part of the city.
